Two bids were opened on May 26, 2017 for the 2017 Miscellaneous Streets Micro-Surfacing and Repair Project. The scope of work included 69,198 SY of micro-surfacing, 6,066 SY of pavement removal/replacement, removal and replacement of striping, and traffic control.
Micro-surfacing is a protective seal coat which extends the life of an asphalt pavement for approximately 5 to 10 years. It is a thin layer of polymer-modified emulsion blended with finely crushed stone to provide traction.
In addition, due to the condition of the roadway surface, a section of Spring Branch Drive from Hunter Drive to Burleson Street will be improved by milling the existing surface to a depth of 4 inches and replacing it with 4 inches of new hot mix asphalt.
The following streets are being resurfaced:
- Spring Branch Drive - Hogan to Burleson Street
- Lake Washington Drive - Goforth Road to Spillway Drive
- Indian Paintbrush Drive - Windy Hill Road to Dandelion Loop
- Kohler's Crossing - FM 1626 to Kyle Crossing
Viking Construction, Inc. has completed the work on all of our previous contracts and they have done good work. Weather permitting, the contractor estimates the micro-surfacing will be done in October due to other commitments and the hot mix asphalt work on Spring Branch Drive will be completed during the summer months while school is out. |
