This project had work restrictions from 9am to 3pm for a 50 foot section on Center St. in the bid documents. This was established to minimize the impact to the school buses and parents dropping and picking up children at Wallace Middle School. However, the construction did not proceed as expected and a decision was made to extend the restricted work hours in order to maintain uninterrupted traffic flow through the area during the morning and afternoon.
The contractor's claim for the delays caused by the work restrictions is $35,803.36 and a credit of 12 days was also added to the project completion.
The original project had a completion time of 120 days. With this change order the completion time was changed to 132 days. The WORK was to be completed by November 15, 2016 and the it was substantially completed on February 21, 2017. The amount for liquidated damages for this contract is $250.00/day and based on the work being completed 81 days after the expected completion date, the amount of liquidated damages is $20,250.00. This amount is subtracted from the cost for the delays caused by the work restrictions. The net change of this work order is $15,553.36.
