Award of a Construction Contract for the Center & South St. Quiet Zone Improvements Project

Subject/Recommendation:

Authorize award and execution of a purchase order to AARON CONCRETE CONTRACTORS, LP, Austin, Texas, in an amount not to exceed $312,528.03 which includes a five (5) percent contingency for the Center Street and South Street Quiet Zone improvements and a ten (10) percent contingency for Union Pacific Railroad direct fees to the contractor for working in their right of way. ~ Leon Barba, P.E., City Engineer

Other Information:

One bid was received on November 15, 2022 for the Quiet Zone construction improvements on Center Street and South Street. The scope of work includes the construction of a raised concrete median along the center line of the streets, curb and gutter, minor pavement widening on South street, and signage and pavement markings on Center Street and South Street from Front Street to Hwy. 81.

 

Separate Construction and Maintenance agreements will need to be entered into between the City of Kyle and Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) for South Street, and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and UPRR for Center Street.  Per the City's agreement with TxDOT, the City is financially responsible for any costs associated with the proposed Quiet Zone improvements.
